What is a BIRT Report, And How Useful is It?
Important: Viewing BIRT reports in the Data Management Portal's BIRT Report Viewer (BIRT Runtime Engine) is not secure and is disabled. After importing the IBM® Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager (TADDM) reports into Tivoli Common Reporting (TCR), it is advised to see BIRT reports using TCR.
If the risks are recognized, BIRT Report Viewer can be restored and used as described in the following paragraphs.
TADDM includes the open source BIRT runtime engine as an integrated component. Additionally, TADDM contains hundreds of predefined database views and predefined reports. Using the BIRT designer tool, you can develop new reports with the TADDM BIRT runtime engine in addition to the predefined reports. These reports can take advantage of JDBC data sources that extract data using predefined database views.
You can manage these BIRT reports using the Data Management Portal interface. You can add new reports, download selected reports, delete uploaded reports, and run reports. Predefined reports are also packaged for use with the Tivoli® Common Reporting tool.
What is BI?
First, what does BI (Business Intelligence) in Eclipse BIRT mean? Translated, it is ''knowledge of work.'' Still, here it means ''extracting data for appropriate and efficient operation of business activities from a large amount of data inside and outside the company, and supporting corporate decision-making.'' A system that backs up properly and efficiently" would be more correct.
Massive volumes of data, such as product, customer, and order data, are contained in enterprise databases.
By introducing BI, companies can develop new products, formulate marketing strategies, and discover and improve inefficiencies in their internal organization from the vast amount of data. In various business activities, useful data that supports decision-making can be extracted and analyzed in real-time.
In other words, BI converts various "data" accumulated in a company into "knowledge (intelligence)" useful for business.
So how is it different from OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) analysis and data mining?
OLAP analysis required specialized skills in using SQL statements for DWH (data warehouse) to obtain results. However, even users who do not know SQL can easily obtain and analyze the data they need with BI. This is the big difference from OLAP.
BIRT: What is it?
Open-source, BIRT is an Eclipse-based utility. The initials BIRT stand for Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools. It is a collection of reporting and business intelligence tools. One of Eclipse's top-level projects is an open source project to provide reporting functionality for a wide range of applications.
Reporting and Business Intelligence tools Reports are written, executed, and created using the BIRT system. It is possible to develop and build BIRT reports for IBM Tivoli Application Dependency Discovery Manager (TADDM) using JDBC data sources and SQL queries for predefined database views.
